Thailand plans to restart tourism on selected islands: As part of a pilot project, the Thai Ministry of Tourism is planning to open the country to international tourists.

Despite the fact that there are still hardly any corona cases, Thailand is taking its time opening up to international tourism. But this much is certain now:

First, foreign tourists will be allowed to travel to the popular Thai holiday islands of Ko Samui, Ko Phangan, Phuket and Ko Phi Phi.

The charming advantage of opening up to tourism despite the ongoing global number of corona cases is obvious: islands can of course be isolated much better in the event of an emergency. The exact details of the opening are not yet fully known and a specific date is not yet available. However, Thailand is unlikely to ease its strict travel restrictions significantly before September.

And holidaymakers will also have a decisive advantage if they travel to one of the islands mentioned as part of the pilot project: the 14-day quarantine obligation, which currently still applies nationwide to everyone entering Thailand from certain countries, will also no longer apply here.

Hardly any corona cases in Thailand

Unlike many other countries, some of which currently have very high numbers of corona cases, Thailand seems to have the virus under control. And not just since yesterday or last week. Together with Vietnam, both Southeast Asian countries have come through the global corona pandemic very well so far.
