The 2023 cruise season on Ko Samui has officially opened. The first international cruise ship, Mein Schiff 5 from the Tui Cruises shipping company, was a guest on January 14, 2023. And on board were over 3,000 tourists, mostly from Europe. Of course, the majority of the passengers left the cruise ship and went on a discovery tour of Ko Samui. Numerous day trips were offered to the cruise passengers, including an island tour and a visit to some attractions such as the Big Buddha statue or, of course, the Secret Buddha Garden / Tarnim Magic Garden sculpture park.

Cruise tourists are boosting tourism on the island

If a 300 meter long cruise ship is a guest in the port, this also means several thousand foreign tourists. Around 3,000 passengers on Mein Schiff 5 went ashore and of course also spent money on Ko Samui, for example on food, drink, souvenirs and entrance fees. Of course, the local economy was also very pleased. Now that Thailand is completely open to foreign tourists again, Samui is also aware of how important tourism is for the economy. Accordingly, the shore leave of Mein Schiff 5 passengers generated tourism revenue of at least 6 million baht (around 168,000 euros).
