Thailand pauses Test&Go because of Omicron variant. The highly contagious variant of the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly around the world.

After the entry regulations in Thailand were slightly relaxed in the last few weeks and months, the Thai government has now decided to tighten the entry regulations for foreign tourists again. The reason is the rapidly increasing number of cases of the omicron variant worldwide. As a first step, the recently introduced Test&Go concept will be paused until further notice. The good news for those who have already booked a holiday in Thailand and whose applications have already been approved:

No need to worry, nothing will change for applications that have already been approved. However, no further applications based on the Test&Go concept can now be submitted. And the Phuket sandbox is also not affected by the current changes in entry regulations. This now means that holidaymakers in Thailand who have already been vaccinated must also complete a chargeable PCR test and, in addition, usually have to spend a night in hotel quarantine until the test result is obtained.

Already over 70 omicron cases in Thailand

The Thai authorities are particularly concerned about the enormous speed with which the much more contagious omicron variant is spreading worldwide. And despite all efforts and entry restrictions, Omikron has already arrived in Thailand. There are currently 74 confirmed omicron cases in Thailand and numerous other suspected cases.
