The same applies in Thailand: life on an island is more expensive than on the mainland. And the more a place or city is developed for tourism, the more you have to plan for rent, food and drink, for example.

For example, a sub at Subways in Chaweng on Ko Samui is around 15 percent more expensive than in Bangkok. Ok, we are talking about cent amounts here, but the bottom line is that the mass also makes up a considerable amount if you extrapolate these price differences to the month or an entire year.
