Normally, the months of January and February are the high season in Thailand with several million tourists from China. But the tourists from China have stayed away so far this year.
This year may be a very difficult year for the tourism sector in Thailand. Because of the millions of Chinese tourists who normally spend their holidays in Thailand in the first months of the year, not much has been seen so far.
The reason why Chinese tourists are staying away is of course the new type of corona virus. Difficult times for Thai hotels, restaurants and the country’s entire tourism industry.
Normally, Thailand sees around 11 million tourists from China every year. But so far this year has started anything but normal. For comparison: Tourists from China are significantly more important in Thailand than tourism from Germany. Around 850,000 Germans travel to Thailand every year.
